    Fauvism is for Birds!

    This is a make and take for all ages, 4 to adult. Introduce to Fauvism (style of les Fauves (a French term that means “the wild beasts”) a group of early 20th century artists whose works were characterized by wild brush work and strident colors, while subject matter featured high degree of simplification and abstraction. Will create a wild bird feeder utilizing those elements.

On the second day of the workshop, we will study the complex color combinations of squash and will glaze our forms using nature as our inspiration.   • Story Art - Hooray for Birds, Lucy Cousins

    Prairie Arts Center, in partnership with the Stillwater Public Library, is pleased to introduce STORY ART, a new offering for ages 3-5, and their parent(s) and/or caregiver(s). Each month, a storybook will be selected and an art project designed to match. A librarian will read the story and then one of our educators will facilitate the art-making. Projects will be developmentally appropriate for ages 3-5, but some parental/adult involvement can be expected. Our hope is to provide a space for our community's mini-makersand their loved ones to relax and create with each other. Join us each month at Prairie Arts Center!

    Hooray for birds

     

    Birds of all feathers flock together in a fun, rhyme-filled offering by the creator of Maisy. From the rooster’s “cock-a-doodle-doo” at dawn to the owl’s nighttime “tuwit, tuwoo,” the cheeps and tweets of many bright and beautiful avian friends will have children eager to join in as honorary fledglings. This day in the life of birds will hold the attention of even the smallest bird-watchers, whether at storytime or just before settling into their cozy nests to sleep.

  • Adult - Polymer Clay Fairy Garden

    Give your garden gnomes a spring time home! We're making fairy gardens and gnomes out of polymer clay with a special guest artist, Sarah Bowen. Sarah will guide participants into making spring time gnomes, mushrooms, and foliage to attach onto pieces of wood. Grow a garden that will last for many seasons using various polymer clay techniques.

    Sarah Bowen is a polymer clay artist from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She combined her passion for making and sharing art, with that of helping others discover the artists in themselves through her business, Tiny Things by Bowen. In addition to making and selling her own miniature creations that are nerdy, whimsical, and cute, she also teaches the craft in a variety of settings.     Advanced Art Academy is geared specifically for our teenagers wanting to learn or develop specific art mediums. Each month a new medium will be taught such as drawing, watercolor, ceramics, etc. In September we will focus on foundational drawing techniques using graphite, charcoal, pen, and colored pencils. All skill levels welcome!

    Liz Dueck is a teaching artist who works primarily in landscape oil painting and ceramic sculpture. She received her BFA from Oklahoma State University as well as a minor in Art History and a K-12th Teaching Certification for Art. Dueck has exhibited her work at various galleries in the OSU campus, as well as in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Last year she had taught art in Costa Rica and now is very excited to work with the community of Stillwater as the new Art Education Coordinator of the Prairie Arts Center.
