The Big Abstract - 36X36 Painting Workshop

This workshop is all about impact and play! Lauren will guide you through creating a 36x36 abstract painting using your favorite colors.  She will discuss color mixing, mark making, layering, composition and common tools to create expressive, impactful abstract paintings. No experience necessary, and no drawing required - we are focusing on color and expressive marks! We will complete one painting during class.  Canvases and tools are supplied but see additional supply list below.

Instructor’s name:

With a background in silk dyeing, Oklahoma City based artist, Lauren Florence, turned to acrylics and canvas after the birth of her son.  With the same vibrant colors she used on silk, her paintings now have form in vibrant, realistic expressionism. Her subject matter is inspired by a deep love of the people and wildlife of Oklahoma and the American West. Lauren has a BFA in Textile Design from the University of Kansas.

Lauren began showing her work in the summer of 2017 with a solo show at Woolaroc Museum and Wildlife Refuge. She now teaches workshops at North Gallery in North Park Mall in Oklahoma City, and teaches mini-workshops at Oklahoma City area businesses through the Allied Arts Corporate Giving Campaign each spring.
