In this week of art camp, students will learn about the aesthetic revolutions of Pop Art, Op Art, minimalism and performance art, as well as the social revolutions that inspired them. Our art projects will explore the still relevant influences of consumerism, mass production, and entertainment exemplified by Pop artists as well as provide an opportunity to play with graphic art, color, and repeated patterns.

In each of our four day summer camps, we will explore the visual art and popular culture of a decade (or two), creating works inspired by what we see and learn. We will take our inspiration from artists and art movements, popular trends in clothing, architecture, literature, theatre, film, music, and dance, as well as the historical and social forces that shaped each era. Each camp will include a combination of two dimensional and three dimensional projects in a variety of media, and will be divided into a 6-10 year old age group and an 11-14 year old group.

All art camps will run Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Students will need to bring a sack lunch, as well as a light snack for morning break. We will spend some time outside, so please pack sunscreen. Students need to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get messy. Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle with the student’s name on it.
