Artists in the Spotlight

We are happy to announce a full six-week roster of in-person summer camps this year for children ages 6-14. Each week we will explore a different artist in depth, creating works inspired by their medium, subject matter, philosophy, and life. Each 4 day camp will include a combination of two dimensional and three dimensional projects, and will be divided into a 6-10 year old age group and an 11-14 year old group. As always, we will learn a lot, play, explore, and expand our understanding of art and the world around us!

June 8-11  - Betye Saar
Join us for this first week of camp as we turn the spotlight on the rich and mystical storytelling of Betye Saar's three dimensional collage work. Like Saer, we will assemble artworks that speak to our memories, dreams, and deepest imaginings.

June 15-18 - Mary Blair
Suzanne (6-10) and Jen
This week our spotlight is on native Oklahoman, Mary Blair. Blair was an illustrator, animator, and designer for Walt Disney in the 1940's and 50's, working on such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice and Wonderland. Just like Blair's work, our week will be full of color, movement, and storytelling!

June 22-25 - Shel Silverstein
Join us for a week with the hilarious poems of Shel Silverstein! We will read, laugh, and
make lots of art inspired by Silverstein's wacky and wondrous word play and distinctive line drawing illustration style.

July 6-9 - Ray and Charles Eames
This week we will work at the intersection of art and design just like the power duo of Ray and Charles Eames did. We will answer questions of function, as well as form, and give into collaborative art play every single day!

July 13-16  - Georgia O'Keefe
This week we will take a deep dive into the iconic life and work of Georgia O'Keefe. Like O'Keefe, we will take our inspiration first and foremost from our surroundings, from the vastness of land and sky to the intimacy of flowers, bones, and shells.

July 20-23  - Bridget Riley
This week dizziness is a distinct possibility as we focus on the work of Bridget Riley and the op art style! Op art is short for optical art and is an abstract, geometric style of painting that gives the viewer the distinct impression of movement, swelling, flashing, warping or vibrating.
