Drawing Class with Jude Tolar, PSA, IAPS/MC
November 9, 2019, 12:30-3:30 pm
A drawing class in which we’ll learn to draw faces. The focus is on drawing the facial form, not necessarily a portrait.
We’ll work from life, with a live model. We will use Conte crayon on Canson Mi-Tientes paper.
—For the November 9 session:1 sheet Canson Mi-Tientes drawing paper, Moonstone color, 19x25". Full-size; don’t cut it down.
I’ll have Canson Mi-Tientes sheets available for you to buy, at my cost of $2 each
You are welcome to bring your own. It needs to be Moonstone, or tan/light gray/similar. Not white and not a dark color.
—Hard backing to put behind paper on the easel
A sheet of foam core, 20x30"
Tape several large sheets of newspaper or newsprint on the foam core, to pad your drawing surface. Then wrap the foam core with kraft paper. You can do this at the workshop, if you prefer.
—2B drawing pencil
—2B graphite stick
—Conte crayon, Sanguine color
—Tortillon or French stump for blending and softening
A piece 18-24" wide, to put on easel tray to catch graphite/conte dust
Standing or table easel. I prefer to stand to paint; but sitting is fine, too.
Prairie Arts Center has easels available, or you can bring your own.
—Sketchbook and pen/pencil
For taking notes, making sketches
—Camera or phone/tablet camera
—Portable light for your easel. Can be a clip-on or floor light.
—4B or darker drawing pencil and/or graphite stick
