  • Beginning Glass Fusing Plus

    Thursday's, Oct 4th & Oct 11th 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
    Glass Fusing Basics is where it all begins! Glass fusing is a way to bring eclectic pieces of glass together to create beautiful contrast.  During the class you will learn some of the basics of glass fusing while making simple jewelry or magnets, fountain pebbles and anything else creative we come up with. We will also be adding dichroic glass!

    Candy Beth Michalski has been working with fused glass since 1994. She loves that hot glass can’t be dictated to but only works as a collaboration. Her work has been featured in the 100 GLASS BEADS book, Lapidary Journal and Bead & Button magazines.

  • Ceramic Gingerbread House

    In this two-part workshop, students will build their own gingerbread house out of clay using the first week, then glazing them to addcolor the following week. They can be picked up from the final firing by Dec. 20th.

  • Cookie Decorating

    We're celebrating this season with our holiday cookie decorating class! Learn various piping techniques to specialize your edible works of art. You'll go home with half a dozen festive sugar cookies.

    Students will make 2 dishes, 1 each week. First dish will be savory, (dinner that night) and 2nd will be a dessert. In the process of mixing they will learn kitchen safety, and how to measure ingredients. While food is baking they will design their own apron or illustrate their recipe pages.

When the center moved to its new building on Duck Street she continued to plan and teach the summer art program. She also developed an art program at the art center for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades in the Stillwater Public Schools. She taught clay techniques, elements of art, principles of art, use of different media and other lessons. She also developed cooking classes for 5 year olds and 3rd graders up to 6th graders.     We are celebrating cooler weather and some time off from school with all things cozy and creative in our Fall Break Camp! Pick one day or both, and each day, we will read a book and create projects based off that story. We'll play outside on breaks then warm up with hot chocolate. Snack will be provided each day but lunch will need to be brought in.  

    On Thursday, October 18th, we will read the book "Windows," by Julia Denos and make projects based off this story of community and the warm colors of fall. On Friday, October 19th, we will read "One Thousand Trees," by Kyle Hughes-Odgers and talk about our natural environments and the importance of trees!

    Liz Dueck is a teaching artist who works primarily in landscape oil painting and ceramic sculpture. She received her BFA from Oklahoma State University as well as a minor in Art History and a K-12th Teaching Certification for Art. Dueck has exhibited her work at various galleries in the OSU campus, as well as in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Last year she had taught art in Costa Rica and now is very excited to work with the community of Stillwater as the new Art Education Coordinator of the Prairie Arts Center.

  • Final Friday Art Crawl

    Stop by the Prairie Arts Center on the Final Friday Art Crawl February 22nd We will have Paint - A - Mug ($10 for members, $15 for non-members), and then FREE  Watercolor Postcards. Benjamin Murphy will be doing demos of his upcoming Still Life Drawing - Essential Techniques class starting March 7th. As always we will have The Arts Shop open with new and used art supplies. We will be open for all activities from 5-8pm, come and go. With your significant other, your entire family or just a group, we have plenty of space! All ages welcome. Crawl on!

    Create three Glass Fused Ornaments of your choice on pre-cut glass bases. These make perfect gifts or something special to decorate your home! Instructor will fire ornaments in a kiln, they can be picked up on Dec. 11th.
