Prairie Arts Center

Come relax and be creative in our Community Art Studio!  Every Saturday, from 10am-1pm, we will provide the space and supplies for you and your family and friends to enjoy a making activity. Directions and an example will be provided for each activity, as well as a staff member to answer questions. Please plan on staying with your children, as this is not a drop-off class. These activities are free, suitable for all ages, and come and go. The projects will change monthly.

September Klee Inspired

September: Klee Inspired Shape Collage
This month, our FREE Community Art Studio project is inspired by early twentieth century artist, Paul Klee, and his famous work Castle and Sun. We will have rectangles, triangles, circles, half circles, and squares pre-cut so you and your friends and family can have fun arranging (and perhaps rearranging) your composition until it is perfect! As always, all are welcome and this activity is FREE every Saturday from 10-1pm this month.

August Mark Making Grid

August: Mark Making Grid
This month come in for an open-ended, process based project that has surprising and elevated results. Your first step is to create a grid on your paper with tape. After that, you simply make marks and apply color on your paper using ink pens, oil pastels, and/or watercolor paints. When the page is completely dry, peel the tape off and VOILA! A masterpiece of your making. As always, all are welcome and this activity is FREE every Saturday from 10-1pm this month.

July Whale Stencil

July: Whale Stencil Sponge Painting
Come beat the heat and imagine being at the beach with this month's free Community Art Studio project! We will be making stencil resist sponge paintings of a whale. This is a  beginner and child friendly project with beautiful results. We will also provide paint pens so you can add drawn details to your work. Join us Saturdays from 10am-noon. As always, all are welcome and this activity is FREE!

June Clothespin

June: Clothespin Flutter Butterfly
This month our Community Art Studio project is an art project for your favorite butterfly enthusiast, lepidopterist, or aurelian! We will be making clothespin butterflies that flutter! You can make a realistic reproduction or make up an imaginary type of winged beauty. You could also make a moth! As always, supplies are provided, as is guidance if needed, and all are welcome to this weekly FREE event!

May Bouquet

May: May Day or Mother's Day Bouquet
Join us this month in our Community Art Studio for a festive card making project! This could be a Mother's Day Card, a May Day gift, or even a graduation or birthday card for someone special in your life. We will provide some pre-made flowers, and paper and markers to draw some of your own. Join us Saturdays from 10am-noon. As always, all are welcome and this activity is FREE!

April Bunny

April: Upcycled Bunny Rabbits
This month our Community Art Studio project is a celebration of spring! Join us Saturdays from 10am-noon to make these adorable upcycled bunny rabbits. You will find pre-painted toilet paper rolls, painted and decorative papers, paint pens, and some spring bling to make your unique version of this cute craft. As always, all are welcome and this activity is FREE!

March Books

March: Miniature Color Chip Books
This month, join us for a celebration of the small things in life! We will be making itty bitty accordian books from upcycled paint color chips and cardboard. You can decorate yours with tiny drawings, little collages, or even poems or stories scrawled in miniature. As always, all supplies are included, all are welcome, and this activity is FREE, Saturdays from 10am-noon.

February Neurographic Painting

February: Neurographic Valentine Watercolor Painting
This month we are bringing back the popular neurographic art method with a Valentine theme!  This activity not only creates beautiful art, but it is also a powerful tool to help calm the brain and regulate the nervous system. We will be here with the supplies and instructions each Saturday of February from 10-noon. All are welcome!

January Horse

January: Year of the Horse Collage
In case you hadn't heard, 2026 is the year of the horse! Horses symbolize freedom and power and deep intuitive wisdom. Join us for this month's Community Art Studio, Saturdays from 10am-noon, and make a beautiful horse collage to keep you inspired throughout the year. As always, this activity is free and all are welcome.
