Join us this week as we turn the spotlight on the intriguing Swedish artist and mystic, Hilma af Klint. One of the first women to attend the Swedish Royal Academy of Fine Arts, she has recently gained recognition as the "mother of abstract art." Much of her work is large scale, giant paintings of other worldly symbols and shapes that came to her through meditation and dreams. Like af Klint, campers will work on a large scale and be inspired by their own dreams, as well as nature, science, math, and the symbols of world religions.

Join us for the last week of our summer camp series, Artists in the Spotlight. We will take inspiration from beloved Filipino-American artist Pacita Abad. Abad was a painter, textile artist, and collagist. Campers will fall in love with her large scale paintings of underwater scenes, tropical flowers and animal wildlife. They will also have fun turning their paintings into sculptures using Abad's "trapunto" technique and adorning them with shells, buttons, and beads!

We are excited to bring back the clay specific half-day camps for our 11-14 year old artists! Students will explore the basic physical properties of clay by practicing a variety of hand-forming techniques, as well as throwing on the wheel, and glazing. Two days will be devoted to the completion of multiple hand built projects, one day to getting the feel of the wheel, and one day to glaze. Please note that students should not expect a completed form from their one day on the wheel. This is a time to play and practice, get dirty, and make mistakes! Due to the nature of the medium and the high temperature fires, student work is occasionally damaged or a loss. We use these rare instances to teach students resilience and persistence. We do not offer make up classes.

We are excited to announce some changes in our summer programming for students between the ages of 11 and 14. Each week, rather than focusing on a theme, students will have the opportunity to focus on one particular medium. They will explore and create while developing skills in medium-specific processes and with medium-specific tools. These camps are four days a week, and 2.5-3 hours each day.
