Join us this week as we explore the artists and artistic traditions of Oceania. Oceania is a collective name given to the more than 10,000 islands and island nations scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. We will draw inspiration from traditions as divergent as the ancient aboriginal art of Australia, the thriving contemporary art scene in Hawaii, and the mysterious stone figures of Easter Island. Like the people of this part of the world, we will also take inspiration from the Pacific Ocean itself!

This week we will be exploring the artists and rich artistic traditions of the nations of the Andean Region including Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. We will meet Pachamama and Pachapapa, learn the meaning of  ayni, a living Andean philosophy of reciprocity, and be inspired by the bright colors of the textile arts that adorn the people and animals of the mountains.
