Intermediate Watercolor Workshop

This intermediate watercolor workshop is for students who have a love for watercolor and want to go beyond the basics. Through imagery provided by instructor you will further explore new techniques and approaches to watercolor.

Jim Buchan Instructor:
Inheriting painting skills from my Scottish born grandfather (a self taught oil painter) I began painting at age 10 - taking weekly lessons on Saturday mornings at Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa,OK. I continued taking private oil lessons from Philbrook instructors. During high school I was introduced to watercolor - learning only the basics - washes, transparency, etc. Fast forward - upon graduating from the Univ. of Arkansas in May of 1971, marrying my beautiful wife Karen in July and beginning my 46 year career with Northwestern Mutual life Ins Co the same month, - In August, I walked into a frame/art supply shop in Brookside (Tulsa, OK) planning to purchase oil paints. The art store had several watercolor paintings - all painted by "signature" artist - Hugh Walkingshaw. The owner mentioned that Hugh was offering watercolor lessons - I was totally taken away with the media of watercolor - which - in turn - began a 50+ year watercolor career. Since Hugh retired in 2004, I've enjoyed attending multiply workshops from Nationally known watercolor artists, Charles Reid, Nita Engle, to name a few. Today I enjoy teaching and painting - seeing artists invest their time and talents in watercolor.
