Join us in in this introductory metalsmithing series and take a deep dive into creating your own jewelry. In the first two sessions, you will get a thorough introduction to the Prairie metals studio and tools while creating a simple sterling silver ring. During this process you will learn how to create a bezel, saw, texture, solder, form a ring shank and set a stone. In the following two sessions, you will have the opportunity to fabricate a ring or pendant of your own design. The last two weeks will include open studio access to experiment and continue working on your final project. After completing this course, you will be eligible to enroll in open studio to continue creating!

In this Beginning Metalsmithing and Jewelry course, students will learn to solder, texture, saw, file, and set a stone while creating a beautiful ring to take home. Students will also learn jewelry studio safety protocols and how to properly use and care for the tools. No previous metalsmithing experience is required. Have you ever wanted to learn how to cut your own cabachons? A cabochon is a gemstone that has been shaped and polished to be a dome shape on the top and is usually flat on the bottom. In this one day class you will learn how to cut, shape and polish cabs from slab material. Students will learn how to use a trim saw and cabbing equipment.
