The goal of Instructional Open Studio is for students to work freely within a flexible schedule while an instructor is present. Instructional Open Studio is open to students that have completed Introduction to Pottery 1 or Introduction to Handbuilding. During these hours students may come in and work, this is not a led class, but more of a working studio where questions can be addressed to instructors and peers. We hope to create an environment where students can experiment and get creative while having a community of support!
Instructional Open Studio instructors will vary month to month. Times and instructors are subject to change. Students can come to any or all time slots. Please note to have your space cleaned up by the ending time as the center closes promptly at 8pm. Every Wednesday night Buck Dollarhide will be offering a demo starting at 6pm. These are offered as an additional learning opportunity but not required if participants want to work on their own projects.
There are 2 options for Open Studio time. Students may pay a monthly fee of $85 that includes a personal shelf and locker to store their items. We also offer a daily rate of $10 which includes use of one locker. Daily rate students may use the community shelves for pieces that are in progress or drying with their name clearly displayed. Pieces without a names will be removed from community shelves. Each participant may only have three pieces on the community shelf at a time.
The Prairie Arts Center expects guests to wear a mask while participating at the center. We can only allow 1 student per handbuilding table and use of pottery wheels are on a first-come, first-serve basis. We are not limiting the amount of people in the studio, but expect that students will remain diligent and respectful of other students space. This does mean that students will also need to be flexible concerning what equipment might or might not be available.

*Open studio students must be PAC members*
*PAC will clean out lockers of students that have not been in the studio for 30 days. Anything left behind will become the property of PAC*
Clay is not provided but may be purchased for $1.50 a pound.
Students will need to bring their own hairdryer, towel, and tools.
We do provide studio glazes made by instructors. No outside clay will be allowed. If bringing in commercial glazes they need to be cone 5 and an instructor will need to sign off before using.
