Artists in the Spotlight - Bridget Riley

This week dizziness is a distinct possibility as we focus on the work of Bridget Riley and the op art style! Op art is short for optical art and is an abstract, geometric style of painting that gives the viewer the distinct impression of movement, swelling, flashing, warping or vibrating.

In each of our four day summer camps, we will explore a different artist in depth, creating works inspired by their medium, subject matter, philosophy, and life. Each camp will include a combination of two dimensional and three dimensional projects, and will be divided into a 6-10 year old age group and an 11-14 year old group.

She has a degree in Art Education and Early Childhood Education and has taught both Middle School Art and Pre-K art, both in Perkins, OK.  She is a lifelong resident of Stillwater and likes to read, travel and play with her grandchildren.

April Dawes has had a life-long love of the arts. She was born and raised in Oklahoma and received her BFA in Oil Painting and Graphic Design from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in 1998. In addition to homeschooling her 3 kids for 12 years, April has taught art in a variety of settings including classrooms, homeschool co-ops and private lessons over past several years.  She has a passion for teaching students the fundamentals and proper techniques of drawing that will allow them to be confident and successful in any artistic endeavors. In addition to teaching, April is a practicing figurative oil painter who has exhibited in multiple group shows in Oklahoma and Colorado and two solo exhibitions since 2018.
