Shadows are important elements in a painting. Shadows enhance light. They bring darker and cooler values to an image, and help define shapes. They can even be the main focus of a painting, as in the pastel painting above.
This workshop will help you learn to see shadows and how to paint them, in still life and in landscapes. We’ll learn about shadow colors, values, edges, and shapes.
We’ll work from life and from photos (yours and mine). Weather permitting, we may work a bit en plein air/outdoors.
For all levels, beginner to advanced. Oil and acrylic painters also welcome; the concepts apply to those mediums as well as to pastel.
