Fun with Fundamentals: Line and Rhythm

Join us this week as we turn our attention toward the most foundational element of visual art there is: line! Campers will take inspiration from the gestural lines of the abstract expressionists, the heavy contour lines of Roy Lichtenstein and the pop artists, the whimsical, wondering lines of Joan Miro as well as the sharp, bold lines of op art painter Bridget Riley. To investigate the way line supports rhythm, students might look at Agnes Martin, Sonia Delaunay, or Frank Loyd Wright. Most importantly, campers will make works with their own lines, finding a rhythm and style all their own.

Each week, our 6-10 year old campers will take a deep dive into the elements of art and principles of design. They will look at work by artists that exemplify and exalt these basics, as well as create their own original art that does the same. Each 4 day camp will include a combination of two dimensional and three dimensional projects and, as always, we will learn a lot, play, explore, and expand our understanding of art and the world around us!
