This workshop explores pastel possibilities in landscapes and other subjects. It’s a follow-up to my Landscapes pastel workshop, but attendance at the earlier Landscapes workshop isn’t necessary for this one.
Concepts include composition, color temperature, editing, edges, and values. Other topics: mark-making (different kinds of strokes and how to control your pastel sticks), spacial distance and atmosphere. We’ll work from life and also from photo references—yours and mine. Bring photos that excite or puzzle you. Objects are welcome, too. We’ll also cover plein air basics: equipment, set-up, and other details. Weather permitting, we may do a session outdoors (en plein air).
I’ll work in pastels, but oil and acrylic painters are welcome, too. The general principles apply to oil and acrylic media as well as to pastel.
