Have you ever been interested in learning the art of metalsmithing in order to create your own, one-of-a-kind jewelry? In this Beginning Metalsmithing and Jewelry course, students will learn to solder, texture, saw, file, and set a stone while creating a beautiful ring to take home. Students will also learn jewelry studio safety protocols and how to properly use and care for the tools. No previous metalsmithing experience is required. Upon completion of this course, students may sign up to use the studio during open studio hours.

 Art Academy is an after-school class designed for students who wish to develop and grow their artistic aptitude. Throughout each six week session, students learn and practice foundational skills in the visual arts and are exposed to a variety of mediums in both the 2D and 3D arts. Art Academy students also develop strong visual literacy and critical thinking skills through looking at and discussing their own artwork and the artwork of others. For the 6-10 year old cohort, each class yields a "final" work or project that is shared and discussed. For the 11-14 year old students, the focus shifts to project based instruction with an emphasis on skill building.

Come discover the dynamic process of watercolor and ink with a one-day class at the Prairie Art Center. We will help you to explore the fluidity and abstract nature of watercolor while enhancing the designs with layered inking techniques. Instructor Lauren Oyer will guide you through a 3-hour course of creating a unique piece of art by overlaying washes of color and then responding to these compositions by drawing over them with ink and pen. Experimentation and creativity will be encouraged in this class and it is open to all experience levels. Whether you are a beginner who has never used watercolors before or an expert, we invite you to take this course and leave with a finished masterpiece.
