  • Instructional Open Studio in Pottery (4)

    The goal of Instructional Open Studio is for students to work freely within a flexible schedule while an instructor is present. Instructional Open Studio is open to students that have taken the Introduction to Pottery and with beginner to advanced pottery knowledge. During these hours students may come in and work, this is not a led class, but more of a working studio where questions can be addressed to instructors and peers. We hope to create an environment where students can experiment and get creative while having a community of support! 

    Instructional Open Studio instructors will vary month to month, but a schedule will be provided. Times and instructors are subject to change. Students can come to any or all time slots. Some of the times are during classes, Instructional students are welcome but need to understand that equipment and instructor present is giving class enrolled students priority. 

    Students must adhere to the hours posted, if there is a 1 or 2-hour gap between times, students must clean up and leave the studio for that time. This is a needed break for instructors and to prepare the studio for the next class.

    If you know how to knit but want to continue learning new skills, in this class we will learn more basics of knitting including casting off, more beginner stitches and also how to read a basic pattern. Please bring your own needles and yarn to the class!

  • Intoduction to Photoshop


    Saturday, July 14th from 11:00am - 3:00pm - Youth Workshop 
    In this course students will learn how to create an event poster / flyer / or advertisement using Photoshop.
    The topics we will cover include:
    How to crop, cut, and merge images
    How “layers” work 
    How to change colors, contrast, and the opacity of photos
    How to add and manipulate text

    Instructor:
    Jesse Couturier-Herndon is a painter, draftsman, sculptor, and educator who currently teaches several Painting, Drawing, and Design classes at Edmond Memorial High School.
     
    As a young man he was greatly influenced by his high school art teacher, Andrew Lark, who instilled in him a passion for art and opened his eyes to the impact art exploration can have on people's lives.  
     
    Jesse was born and raised in Mississippi, received his BFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design and completed his post-baccalaureate in K-12 Art Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Georgia.  He has subsequently taught at several schools in Georgia, Florida, and Oklahoma, while continuing to work professionally as an artist.  
     
    ​Jesse’s aspiration is to develop better ways of making art, and creative ways of teaching those techniques to future artists.

  • Intro to Block Printing: Linocut

    Learn the basics of block printing with linoleum in this 2 day workshop. Participants will be instructed in the basics of carving linoleum, inking and printing, as well as more advanced methods such as multicolor printing, multiblock registration, and hand burnishing. Carving tools and linoleum will be provided. Paper will also be included. However, students are encouraged to bring their own materials to print on, such as t-shirts or fabrics, other printmaking papers, or tote bags. 
     
    Students who complete this course will then qualify for the Printmaking Instructional Open Studio time. Students will have access to the etching press, inks, brayers, and carving tools. Students enrolled in Open Studio must provide their own linoleum and/or woodblocks and paper for printing.
     
    Ages 16 and up. 
     
    Instructor’s name:
    Jenn Johnson is an artist and printmaker from Oklahoma who focuses on figurative abstraction. She graduated from Oklahoma State University’s BFA program in 2018, where she studied multiple forms of printmaking. Johnson has worked with various printmakers in Oklahoma, as well as interned at Universal Limited Art Editions in Long Island, NY. Her work has been shown in multiple juried exhibitions at the Gardiner Gallery in Stillwater, OK, at Print on Paseo in OKC, and in OVAC’s traveling show, 24 Works on Paper. Johnson currently works as a Studio Assistant and Printmaker at the Prairie Arts Center in Stillwater, OK.
