  • Reflections Workshops - Visual Arts

    Do you enjoy painting, drawing, sculpting/modeling, singing or making music, dancing, making home movies, taking photos and/or writing poems and short stories? Then, you can participate in the 2019-2020 Oklahoma PTA Reflections program by imagining and creating your own masterpiece! Come and learn about the various art categories, get advice from creative professionals, and jumpstart the process of starting/completing your Reflections submission.


     

    Open to participating PTA Stillwater Public School students from Pre-K through 12th grades.
    (All students Pre-K through 8th must be accompanied by an adult)

    Free workshops to be held at Prairie Arts Center:

    Visual Arts- September 7th, 10:00am - 11:30am & Photography- October 5th, 1:00pm - 2:30pm
    Art educator Jen Johnson holds an undergraduate degree in art history and English literature from the University of Kansas, as well as an MAT (Masters in the Art of Teaching) from the English Department at the University of Montana. In her own practice, Jen is equally invested in understanding the larger world through her interactions with the art objects of others and the making of her own art objects. Jen considers her greatest strengths as an educator to be the facilitation of reflective and critical conversations about art and art making, as well as the creation of safe environments for authentic explorations into the practices of self-expression and making. Her preferred mediums are mixed media, printmaking, and photography, but she enjoys the act of creation no matter the medium and considers it one of her greatest joys to make art alongside others.

    Film -September 7th, 1:00pm - 2:30pm
    Trevor Rogers has worked in the world of film and television industry for over seven years. He has five years experience as a producer for CBS Sports and their company 247Sports.com, has produced four independent projects, worked on numerous feature films and TV shows and now focuses on community engagement as the Director of Outreach at Nathan Gardocki Productions in Oklahoma City. There, Trevor works to provide opportunities to all that are interested in working in the film industry in the state of Oklahoma.

    Jenn Johnson is an artist and printmaker from Oklahoma who focuses in figurative abstraction. She graduated from Oklahoma State University’s BFA program in 2018, where she studied multiple forms of printmaking. Johnson has worked with various printmakers in Oklahoma, as well as interned at Universal Limited Art Editions in Long Island, NY. Her work has been shown in multiple juried exhibitions at the Gardiner Gallery in Stillwater, OK, at Print on Paseo in OKC, and in OVAC’s traveling show 24 Works on Paper. Johnson currently works as a Studio Assistant and Printmaker at the Prairie Arts Center in Stillwater, OK.

  • Robert Rauschenberg Spring Break Art Camp

    We will learn about the development of Pop Art and American visual arts in the 1950s and 1960s through a focus on the work of artist Robert Rauschenberg during this Spring Break Art Camp! Since Rauschenberg was known for his use of non-traditional materials and techniques, students will be encouraged to do the same! Participants will experiment with painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking.Camp will include a field trip to the OSU Museum of Art in order to examine Rauschenberg’s extraordinary stainless steel mural in their collection. We'll also explore the similarities between the visual arts, and music from the second half of the 20th century and create works of art inspired by these shared themes.

    *Support from the Oklahoma Arts Council has allowed us to offer the camp at a reduced price.

    A snack will be provided, but students need to bring their lunch each day. 

    After care will be provided each day of camp from 3-5pm for an additional $25 per day. This is not instructional time, but books, games, videos, and drawing activities will be available. 
    Instructor's
    Lindsey Carter is currently the Art Teacher at Holy Trinity Lutheran School, a private school in Edmond, where she teach grades K-8th. She has worked as a Paraprofessional with the Weatherford Public School System and taught art as well. Last summer she was the lead instructor for our Summer Art Studio, a six weeks summer art camp from June through July. She graduated high school from a small town in Osage County and then attended Oklahoma State University to study Studio Art. She found her passion for teaching when she started working at the Multi Arts Center while attending OSU. Lindsey's preferred mediums are acrylic/oil painting, gouache, and printmaking. She looks forward to returning and teaching at the Prairie Arts Center and can not wait to meet everyone!

    Liz Dueck is a teaching artist who works primarily in landscape oil painting and ceramic sculpture. She received her BFA from Oklahoma State University as well as a minor in Art History and a K-12th Teaching Certification for Art. Dueck has exhibited her work at various galleries in the OSU campus, as well as in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Last year she had taught art in Costa Rica and now is very excited to work with the community of Stillwater as the Art Education Coordinator of the Prairie Arts Center.

    CLAY 4-week course with Artist Scarlet Rock.

    MEMBERS $100 Non-MEMBERS $120, supplies included

    Ages: 8-12,

    Saturdays 10:30 am -12:30 pm, 8 hours of instruction

    Oct. Nov 4, 11, 18 and Dec 2  (No class Nov 25th)

    CLAY IS A WAY, for children to create, make and take and get dirty with a purpose.  Students will start with hand building and progress into small 

    thrown vessel on the wheel.  They will glaze and fireworks to completion, it is the CLAY IS A WAY.
