Have you ever been interested in learning the art of metalsmithing in order to create your own, one-of-a-kind jewelry? Now you can at Prairie Arts Center! In this Beginning Metalsmithing and Jewelry course, students will learn to solder, texture, saw, file, and set a stone while creating a beautiful ring to take home. Students will also learn jewelry studio safety protocols and how to properly use and care for the tools. No previous metalsmithing experience is required. Upon completion of this course, students may sign up to use the studio during open studio hours.
For those with previous experience in metalsmithing, we have an exciting class with local artist Kathy Shann! Kathy will be teaching how to design and make a sterling silver ring with two beautiful stones. Students should have basic knowledge of sawing, texturing, soldering and stone setting. Students will choose and purchase a stone directly from Kathy and will need to bring cash or use Venmo as form of payment directly to her. She will bring a variety of stones to choose from.
Join instructor Missy Hitch to create and customize your own ceramic Bunny Gnome set! Give each of your bunny or bunny gnomes a unique personality and style. No experience is needed. All gnomes will be bisque fired and ready to paint with either acrylic, glaze, or watercolor paints by April 1st. This is a perfect project to keep for your spring decor or gift to someone special. Participants can make up to four gnomes.
