In this course, students explore the basic physical properties of clay by practicing a variety of hand-forming techniques used to create functional objects. Hand-forming techniques will include, pinch pots, slab building, mold slumping, and texture. The objective is not to make pieces to take home, rather learning what is possible and allowing you to get your hands dirty and feel what it's like! No previous experience in clay is needed for this class. (an introduction class is a prerequisite for instructional open studio)

Join us in learning how to do basic embroidery stitches like back, stem, and chain stitches in a freeform design. Freeform stitching is a great way to relax and create art without having to worry about pattern tracing or staying in lines! You will be provided with all of the threads and fabric that you need to make an abstract design and stitch freely to make fun textures and shapes in your hoop.

Have you ever been interested in learning the art of metalsmithing in order to create your own, one-of-a-kind jewelry? Now you can at Prairie Arts Center! In this Beginning Metalsmithing and Jewelry course, students will learn to solder, texture, saw, file, and set a stone while creating a beautiful ring to take home. Students will also learn jewelry studio safety protocols and how to properly use and care for the tools. No previous metalsmithing experience is required. Upon completion of this course, students may sign up to use the studio during open studio hours.

Join fiber artist Desir'ee Rember to learn the basics of crochet. In this class, you will learn how to make a foundation chain as well as the single, double and half double crochet stitches. Selecting the right tools for your projects and how to read a crochet pattern will also be covered. Please bring a size I 5.5 mm aluminum crochet hook and two skeins of worsted weight acrylic yarn, any color except black.
