Calling all creative kids! With pre-rolled clay slabs ready to go, students will cut and shape their own ceramic conversation hearts using cookie cutters and simple handbuilding tools. They’ll have access to individual alphabet letters, allowing them to arrange and stamp any word or name they choose—from initials to fun phrases to totally original creations. Each heart will include a small clay hook added at the top, making it easy to hang on a wall, locker, door knob, or display peg.

After the workshop, we’ll bisque fire all the pieces. Kids can return as soon as the following week—by appointment to paint their finished hearts with watercolor, choosing soft pastels, bold pops of color, or anything in between. A fun, creative piece of art they can proudly hang and enjoy!

Art Academy is an after-school class designed for students who wish to develop and grow their artistic aptitude. Throughout each six week session, students learn and practice foundational skills in the visual arts and are exposed to a variety of mediums in both the 2D and 3D arts. Art Academy students also develop strong visual literacy and critical thinking skills through looking at and discussing their own artwork and the artwork of others. For the 6-10 year old cohort, each session yields a "final" work or project that is shared and discussed. For the 11-14 year old students, the focus shifts to skills-based instruction with an emphasis on drawing, painting, design, and composition.

In this special holiday themed class, students will learn how to construct a collagraph plate, making use of various textures and techniques. They will also learn how to properly ink their plate and roll it through our printing press! Our theme is "a holiday scene," which could be a cozy indoor scene by the fire or a snowy nature scene, a snowman, or a Christmas tree. Students will make multiple prints, donating one to the center for our holiday display in the lobby. Their work will be up from mid-November until early January for everyone at the center to enjoy!
