In this course, students explore the basic physical properties of clay by practicing a variety of hand-forming techniques used to create functional objects. Hand-forming techniques will include pinch pottery, slab and coil building, mold slumping, and texturizing surfaces. This class uses an embroidery hoop as both loom and frame to create an original weaving to be hung on a wall.  Students will learn to warp the loom, select appropriate yarns and other materials, design a weaving and then begin to create.  The instructor will demonstrate several weaving stitches and some pile weaves that can be used to add texture to the weaving.  If the weaving is not finished in class, students can take home enough materials to finish the project.

We hope to create an environment where students can experiment and get creative while having a community of support!
