Animal Linocut Printmaking Workshop

Join us for a creative linocut printmaking class where you'll learn how to carve and print your own unique animal characters with local artist Margaret Price! This hands-on workshop will guide you through the process of designing, cutting, and inking your linoleum block, bringing your animal creations to life through bold, expressive prints. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced printmaker, this class will inspire your creativity as you experiment with textures, shapes, and techniques to craft charming animal portraits. All materials are provided—just bring your imagination!

Beginning Metalsmithing and Jewelry-November 2024

Have you ever been interested in learning the art of metalsmithing in order to create your own, one-of-a-kind jewelry? In this Beginning Metalsmithing and Jewelry course, students will learn to solder, texture, saw, file, and set a stone while creating a beautiful ring to take home. Students will also learn jewelry studio safety protocols and how to properly use and care for the tools. No previous metalsmithing experience is required. Upon completion of this course, students may sign up to use the studio during open studio hours.

Rug Tufting Tuesday Nights

This class offers an opportunity to get up close and personal with the newest fiber arts phenomenon - rug tufting. We will provide your frame, your tufting cloth, your choice of four different yarn colors from our selection, and your tufting machine, as well as an instructor to guide you through it! By the end of the two day class, you’ll have a fully tufted rug. You can choose a design from our preselected options or create your own design! After the workshop we will finish the backing of your rug for you, and they will be available for pickup right back here at the PAC.

Watercolor Pumpkin Workshop

Join us for a fun, beginner-friendly 1-hour watercolor workshop where no experience is needed! You’ll create three 4x6 watercolor pumpkins, adding pen details to bring out unique textures and designs. By the end of the session, you’ll have three beautiful, frame-worthy pieces perfect for display as a set!

Shadow Pastel Workshop with Jude Tolar, PSA, IAPS/MC*

Shadows are important elements in a painting. Shadows enhance light. They bring darker and cooler values to an image, and help define shapes. They can even be the main focus of a painting, as in the pastel painting above.

Watercolor and Ink Class

Come discover the dynamic process of watercolor and ink with a one-day class at the Prairie Art Center. We will help you to explore the fluidity and abstract nature of watercolor while enhancing the designs with layered inking techniques. Instructor Lauren Oyer will guide you through a 3-hour course of creating a unique piece of art by overlaying washes of color and then responding to these compositions by drawing over them with ink and pen. Experimentation and creativity will be encouraged in this class and it is open to all experience levels. Whether you are a beginner who has never used watercolors before or an expert, we invite you to take this course and leave with a finished masterpiece.
