Discover the art of hand building in this beginner-friendly class, perfect for those who want to explore the tactile and creative possibilities of working with clay—no wheel required! Under the guidance of a professional ceramic artist, you’ll learn the foundational techniques of pinching, coiling, and slab construction. Throughout the course, you’ll work on instructor-designed projects that highlight each of these techniques and help you develop and refine your skills step by step. All students will work on the same projects at the same pace, ensuring a cohesive learning experience and plenty of opportunities to ask questions and receive personalized feedback.

Overlay Pendant Class
In this beginner metalsmith class, students will complete a beautiful sterling silver and stone pendant featuring an overlay design. Overlay adds dimensionality, interest, and contrast to your work, and involves a technique called sweat soldering. You will also learn tips and tricks for sawing, drilling, making a bezel, stone setting and more. No prior experience is required.

Wheel Throwing II: Building on the Fundamentals - March
Take your pottery skills to the next level with Wheel Throwing II! This class is designed for those who have completed our Beginning Wheel Throwing class or have basic experience on the pottery wheel. Under the guidance of a professional ceramic artist, you’ll deepen your understanding of the techniques learned in Wheel One, with a focus on refining your forms and exploring more complex shapes.
Embossed Copper Hearts
Learn the art of embossing with local metalsmith, Courtney Kelly, and create your own decorative embossed heart using thin copper sheet metal. You will either use a design template created by Courtney, or make a design of your own. Choose from a variety of light catching beads and charms to finish your design!

Join us for a fun and creative workshop where you’ll learn to handbuild adorable animal-themed ceramic yarn bowls! This three-hour class is perfect for beginners—no prior experience is needed. You’ll receive step-by-step guidance to create your own unique piece, and all materials are provided. Come ready to unleash your creativity and take home a charming yarn bowl that’s both functional and decorative. Bowls will be ready to glaze on February 22nd .
Splat and Splodge: A Ralph Steadman Inspired Art Camp
Prairie Arts Center is excited to once again partner with our neighbors to the north, the OSU Museum of Art, for this year's Spring Break Camp. This 4-day camp will begin on Tuesday, March 18th with a visit to the museum for an interactive tour of Ralph Steadman: And Another Thing where campers will get to see Steadman's expressive, bold, and whimsical work up close. Our week of art making will take inspiration from Steadman's ink blot technique and his willingness to wait for characters and images to emerge from his random splats and splodges. Students should bring a lunch and snack, and come dressed for the weather and making messes!
